by Charley Kyd, MBA

Returns the day of the month that corresponds to a date serial_number. The day is given as an integer that ranges from 1 to 31.

Syntax

DAY(serial_number)

  • serial_number can take two forms. First, it can be the date-time code that Excel uses for date and time calculations. Second, it can be text that the DATEVALUE function could convert into a date serial number.

Applies To

Excel 2003 and above

Remarks

Probably the most-frequent use of the DAY function is in combination with the DATE function.
