Syntax

RAND()

Applies To

Excel 2003 and above

Remarks

RAND returns a random real number greater than or equal to 0 and less than 1. A new random real number is returned every time the worksheet is calculated.

Examples

Although RAND returns an evenly distributed number, it can be used with statistical functions to return results from a variety of distributions, as these examples illustrate. All charts return data from a column of 500 randomly generated values.
